The Process
The precursor to obedience training for puppies begins at six weeks. The trainer begins to spend time with them and establishes a working relationship. By this time they begin to respond to call by name and learn to trust the handler. One of the most important goals achieved in this stage of puppy development is establishing their pack structure. Most of our canines are herding dogs and clear pack authority has to be established early on to avoid future issues the customer may face. Complete obedience training is completed by the age of five months in most cases.
Next, selected puppies move on to guard dog, personal protection or tracking dog training. At this stage the puppy usually has a client registered to purchase a trained canine. We require client to participate in the final stages of advanced training, be it guard dog/watch dog/personal protection or estate protection. We complete the process with the new owner, at which time the dog is considered "master-trained".
Support
We do provide a 3-month after sales consultation to ensure the dog/owner relationship is going well and as expected. Additional dog Kennel Master support programs are available on request and this provides you with trainer visits every six months to ensure your working canine is on track with its duty and trained role. Clients that sign up for this program get free boarding service for up to 10 days a year. This keeps your working K9 in the loop with the pack and training routines to ensure he/she is performing optimally.
Our kennels are located in a ten acre ranch with kennels, handler accommodation and training facilities. All dogs are exercised daily and trained regularly to sustain levels of motivation to work and stay in great shape.
We have a well-laid out tracking zone and a protected agitation ring. Kennels are secured and patrolled around the clock by human and K9 security.
Profile
Our training and operations are the brainchild of Alfie. Apart from military service in Sri Lanka, Alfie served as a National Rifle Association (NRA) certified firearms instructor and Range Master in Florida, and had the opportunity to work with some of the finest law enforcement K9 handlers in the US and military working dog handlers in Sri Lanka. Alfie launched Sri Lanka Working Dog Center after successfully training his canines in personal and estate protection - a unique strategy pioneered to protect estates from crop raiding elephants.
